Mexican remittances jump 13 pct as peso weakens
MEXICO CITY (AP) - The amount of dollars sent home by Mexicans living abroad has jumped 13 percent as the peso weakens against the U.S. currency. Mexico's central bank says Mexicans sent home $2.4 million in October. That's a rise from the same month last year.

Border Patrol says fence slows attacks on agents

McALLEN, Texas (AP) - Four illegal immigrants were found in the back of a Wal-Mart truck, and the driver and two alleged accomplices were accused of trying to smuggle them through a Border Patrol checkpoint.

Migrant vessel missing with dozens of Dominicans
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - The Coast Guard is searching the waters off western Puerto Rico for a boat that is reportedly missing with more than 40 Dominican migrants. The Guard says rescue crews are using helicopters, a cutter and several aircraft to look for any sign of the makeshift wooden boat - or survivors.

Filipino workers remittances rise despite crisis
MANILA, Philippines (AP) - The millions of Filipino workers abroad sent home $12.3 billion in the first nine months of this year, a 17.1 increase despite a global slowdown that economists warned Monday may bite the local economy in 2009.
